German Students Join our Sixth Form

We are delighted to welcome our five students from St Agnes School in Stuttgart who are attending Central High for a month.  In Germany the girls are all studying for their Sixth Form qualification, an Abitur and study around 14 different subjects.  They will leave school when they are 19!

Verena Hilbert

Verena Hilbert is from Weilder Stadt near Stuttgart.  She has joined Central High primarily to improve her English and is very excited about doing all of her lessons in English. ‘I only hope that I can understand everything!'.  ‘I have chosen to take Religious Studies because it is not a subject I can study at St Agnes.  I have also chosen History, Politics and Philosophy.

‘My ambition is to become a Film Director.  I want to make documentaries across the world!  I have always wanted to do this and I am very lucky to have met a film a director who has agreed to help me with my studies.  I also have the opportunity to go to a Film Camp for a week.'

In her free time Verena likes horse riding and dancing.  ‘I also love to travel so that I can broaden my horizons.'

Valerie Dicenta

Valerie Dicenta is 17 and lives in Stuttgart.  She first heard about the opportunity to come to Central High through her English Teacher and knew immediately that she wanted to come.  ‘I want to speak English well, not just my school English!  It is a very important language to master.'

‘I will leave School at 19 and I would like to study medicine at university so I need top marks in my Abitur.  My dream is to become a surgeon. Even when I lead Church holiday camps I always choose to take on the role of Nurse!  I am hoping that coming to Central High for a month will help me with my studies.'

Valerie has chosen to study Psychology, Maths, Physics and History as her A level subjects.  ‘I chose these subjects because of my interest in medicine but I am also really interested in finding out about how History is taught in England.'

Valerie has a big family and loves to get involved in activities through Church.  ‘I like a lot of people around me.  I need action!'

Eva Mezger

Unsurprisingly Eva Mezger's main aim for coming to Central High is also to improve her English but she has an equal interest in learning about English culture and family life.

She said, ‘I think coming to Central High will also help me when I come to making my university application.'

Eva loves to Dance and will be study Dance A level as well as Psychology, French and Business Studies. ‘I go to Dance School, and my Mother is a Dance teacher, but there is no opportunity for me to study Dance as part of my Abitur.  This is very different from my studies in Germany and I am really looking forward to the experience.

‘I love Dance but my Mum tells me it is a very tough profession so I am not sure if my career will be based around this.  I don't really know what I want to do in the future but maybe I would like to spend a full year studying in another country.'

Claire Janka

Claire Janka is really excited about the subjects she has chosen to study at Central High and has given some serious thought to the four A level subjects. In the end she has settled for Theatre Studies, Classical Civilisation, Economics and Psychology.

For a 16 year old she has a very clear view on where her future lies.  I would like to join the German Police Force! There are different times when you can join and I haven't quite decided which route to take yet.  I can either join a Police Academy when I am 19 or go to university to study Law and then join the Police Force after this.  I am trying to keep an open mind at the moment.

‘Ever since I was small I have wanted to join the Police.  I have a wish to do something good.' Claire is already active in her community and is involved in the youth section of her Town Council.  When she does have some spare time she loves to be outdoors.

Laura Müller

Laura Müller lives in Ostfilden, 25 km from Stuttgart and feels very lucky to have the opportunity to come to Central High.

‘Initially the scheme was only open to girls in the Year below me, but after a while a spare place became available and my application was accepted.  It is my first time in England and it is a dream to be here.  I really want to find out about real life in England, not just what you learn on a holiday.

‘I am excited about studying just four subjects while I am at Central High and I have chosen PE, Geography, History and Graphics as A levels.  I love sport and I chose subjects where I think there will be a lot of English speaking.'

‘My first impressions of Central High are that the classes are much smaller than in my school and there is a lot more discussion in the lessons.  The IT equipment is also much more modern and the relationship between teachers and the students is different; more relaxed but with high expectations.  I am sure I will be able to have more to say at the end of my four weeks at Central High!'
