Art Would you like to embark on an artistic journey? The Art and Design Department gives a space in which creative and artistic imagination can take flight. It is somewhere that nurtures essential skills and expressive possibilities.
Our main aim is to produce confidence in all girls that they have creative abilities. We work throughout all Key Stages with a wide range of media to enable individuality and to promote girls working towards their strengths. Within Years 7 – 9 we develop a variety of skills by using many different medias within each project. This work will nurture abilities in Art and Design topics such as drawing and painting, 3D work, textiles, graphics, printmaking etc. We change our project briefs every year to keep the work fresh and inspiring.
By the time the girls are working at GCSE level they are fully prepared to follow the structure of the course. At this Key Stage they study Unendorsed GCSE, which again puts equal importance on all areas within Art and Design. Similarly to Years 7-9, they work on a variety of different topics. This allows students to work towards their often very diverse strengths and produce individual, personal work. In Sixth Form the girls have a choice of four different AS levels and three different A2 levels they can take in Art and Design subjects. These are: Fine Art - drawing, painting, sculpture, printing etc Graphics - book design, illustration, public art, IT etc Textiles - silk screen printing, fashion, fabric manipulation, embroidery etc Photography - black and white photography, digital camera work, video etc* only at As level
We have many different events and exhibitions each year. These change depending on the theme of the current projects the girls are working on. We have an annual Fashion show in which girls from a variety of different year groups make and model their own creations. We also have an annual GCSE and A level exhibition so that the girls can exhibit their coursework.
Our extra-curricular activities include a weekly life drawing for Years 10 - 13 and an Art club for all year groups held at lunchtime. |
