Multi Million Pound Redevelopment Brings Results Work has now been completed on Central Newcastle High School's multi million pound redevelopment of its Senior School facilities on Eskdale Terrace in Jesmond. Construction began in July 2005 and concluded in September 2006. The project has produced outstanding new facilities for the region's leading all girls' school and includes the creation of a new School Library and ICT suites, a new Science Laboratory, an Art School and an English School. Central High's purpose built Sixth Form Wing has also been extended to provide extra space for the School's large Sixth Form. Other work has included the refurbishment of the classrooms in the main school building as well as the Reception area. Substantial elements of Phase 1 were carried out in the summer holiday of 2005, resulting in the conversion of the Assembly Hall to a multi purpose space and including a new dining facility. This was opened for use in January 2006. The new Art School was opened in May 2006 and we now can dedicate two floors of the former Synagogue on Eskdale Terrace to our Art Department. This has enabled the School to broaden the Art curriculum to add ceramics and jewellery making as well as create a fabulous environment in which to study Art and Design. Our new Library and ICT facility has given us a state of the art independent learning centre and enhanced our pupils' already generous access to ICT. The creation of dedicated centres for English and, by next year, Modern Languages have and will bring benefits to the teaching of these subjects. The Sixth Form extension to the common room and the classrooms now provides our students with the very best of facilities. Ends September 2006 |
