Central Newcastle High School was opened in 1895 and has always enjoyed a high academic reputation. We provide a continuity of education for girls from Nursery at age three through to Sixth Form and serve a wide catchment area drawing our pupils from many different backgrounds. Our Junior School is located in West Avenue, Gosforth and girls move to Chapman House in Sandyford during Key Stage Two. Our Senior School is in Eskdale Terrace, Jesmond conveniently close to the Metro Station. Central High is proud to be a leading member of the Girls' Day School Trust (GDST). The GDST is one of the largest, longest established and most successful groups of independent schools in the UK, with 4,000 staff and over 20,000 students between the ages of three and 18. As a charity that owns and runs a family of 29 schools in England and Wales, it reinvests all its income into its schools for the benefit of the pupils. Since its foundation in 1872, the GDST has been a strong voice in promoting opportunities for young women. With a long history of pioneering innovation at the forefront of the education for girls, the GDST now also educates boys in some of its schools, and has two co-educational Sixth Form Colleges. International links and collaboration are actively pursued and each school seeks to incorporate an international dimension to the educational experience. Each school is characterised by its broad curriculum, record of academic achievement and rich programme of extra curricular activities. The GDST aims to help each pupil to achieve her best academic results within a distinctive and inclusive educational framework. It encourages pupils to cultivate a lively intellectual curiosity and a wide range of interests and life skills.
