About our School and the Girls' Day School TrustCentral Newcastle High School was opened in 1895 and has always enjoyed a high academic reputation. We provide a continuity of education for girls from Nursery at age three through to Sixth Form and serve a wide catchment area drawing our pupils from many different backgrounds. Our Junior Department is located in West Avenue, Gosforth and girls move to Chapman House in Sandyford during Key Stage Two. Our Senior Department is in Eskdale Terrace, Jesmond conveniently close to the Metro Station. The Girls' Day School Trust (GDST) is a group of 29 independent schools throughout England and Wales with around 20,000 pupils and 4,000 staff. Since its foundation in 1872, the GDST has been at the forefront of education for girls and a strong voice in promoting opportunities for young women. GDST strategic planning places emphasis on encouraging diversity across its schools, which is being supported through selective growth and acquisition and the development of a group of prep schools, some of which are co-educational. There are also some opportunities for co-educational diversity post-16, and one GDST school, in Cardiff, has a co-educational sixth form college. International links and collaboration are actively pursued and each school seeks to incorporate an international dimension to the educational experience. The 29 schools of the GDST are some of the very best in the country, with levels of fees that are regarded as highly competitive. Each school is characterised by its broad curriculum, record of academic achievement and rich programme of extra curricular activities. Together they make up the largest group of independent schools in the UK. The GDST aims to help each pupil attain their best academic results within a distinctive and inclusive educational framework. It encourages pupils to cultivate a lively intellectual curiosity and a wide range of interests and life skills. The Girls' Day School Trust
