What's new in SafeGuard® Easy 4.30?

SafeGuard Easy's hard disk encryption, which provides base protection for PCs and laptops, has now established itself as an effective, secure and easily-maintained solution for thousands of companies, from small offices up to multinational groups. Service Release 4.30 of SafeGuard Easy fixes a number of different problems that were present in previous versions, and also has some new functions:

Support for Lenovo’s Client Security Solution (CSS) 7.0 and Rescue and Recovery 3.10

SafeGuard Easy continues to be compatible with Lenovo’s ThinkVantage technologies

Logging on with RSA SID800 token

SafeGuard Easy has extended its range of logon methods by adding the RSA SID800 USB token. The RSA Token logs users on both in the SafeGuard Easy logon screen (PBA) and in the Administration tools. The functionality provided is comparable with the functionality for the Aladdin eToken, which SafeGuard Easy has already supported for some time.

Biometric logon with Lenovo Fingerprint Sensor

In addition to logon with USB token (RSA, Aladdin), SafeGuard Easy now also supports logon via "fingerprint" in the pre-boot authentication phase. The benefit of using a fingerprint is that a user does not have to remember SafeGuard Easy passwords or the PIN for a USB token. They can identify themselves to a Lenovo notebook, for example, simply by passing their finger over the sensor that is installed on it.

Flexible handling for token support

Until now, once SafeGuard Easy had been installed, it was not possible to cancel the selected logon method (optional, without or with token). Now, a new function enables you to switch between the different logon methods without deinstalling SafeGuard Easy first.

Windows computer lock when a token is removed

When a token is removed, SafeGuard Easy locks the screen without the need for additional software (SafeGuard Advanced Security Base Module no longer needed). If the configuration has been set up to allow it, SafeGuard Easy’s own Workstation Lock is displayed instead of the Windows Workstation Lock. You can only unlock Safe- Guard Easy’s Workstation Lock with the SafeGuard Easy password.

Language displayed in the SafeGuard Easy logon screen (preboot authentication) can be changed at a later time point

The logon screen uses the language selected during installation (English, French or German). Now, users no longer have to deinstall SafeGuard Easy to display the PBA texts in a different language. WARNING: you can only change the language used to display the texts during PBA, not the keyboard layout!

Simplified registration for SafeGuard Easy Clients running older versions

In large corporate environments there are sometimes "mixed" SafeGuard Easy implementations, i.e. clients with different program versions (ranging from version 4.10 to 4.20). If the Administrator uses a pre-defined schedule of procedures, the "old" clients are automatically transferred into the current database.

Optional extensibility

SafeGuard Easy is not a stand-alone solution. Benefiting from the wide range of Utimaco's product portfolio, the customer can extend SafeGuard Easy in many directions to meet their requirements. For example:

Aladdin eToken PRO

Aladdin eToken PRO

The Aladdin eToken PRO USB form factor smartcard provides two factor authentication at pre boot when used with SafeGuard Easy. The tokens can be managed using the Aladdin Token Management System together with the Utimaco TMS SafeGuard® Plugin, together this provides a seamless way to manage SafeGuard credentials in an Active Directory environment.

Aladdin eToken NG-OTP

Aladdin eToken NG-OTP

The recent introduction of the new Aladdin NG-OTP token combines the tried and trusted USB form factor smartcard together with a One Time Password generator. When used with the Token Management System (TMS) this token delivers a more easily managed, better integrated, more cost effective and future proof solution for identity management than the traditional alternative.

Aladdin TMS

The Aladdin Token Management System (TMS™) is a robust management system that enables the deployment, provisioning and maintenance of all eToken devices, including security tokens, smartcards and ID badges, within an organization. It supports a comprehensive range of security applications such as network logon, VPN, web access, one-time password authentication, secure e-mail, data encryption and many others.
