Borderware Firewall Server
The BorderWare Firewall Server has established yet another industry
landmark by becoming the first Firewall worldwide to gain a 2nd
Common Criteria EAL4 certification. This certification was awarded
on the 23rd of January 2002 for Version 6.5 of the Firewall Server.
BorderWare Technologies Inc. set the standard in January 2000 when
V6.1.1 became the first Firewall to obtain an EAL4 certification,
since then many major firewall manufacturers have followed BTI's
lead and have submitted their firewall products for Common Criteria
Evaluation, but only two other products have achieved this level
of certification.
BTI submitted V6.5 for certification because it contained many
new features not present in V6.1.1 and therefore not covered by
the earlier certification. The certification awarded to V6.5 is
much wider in scope and includes:
- Up to 6 network interfaces
- The S-Core operating system including the unique stack and buffer
overflow protection
- 23 Application proxies including NetMeeting
The certification also includes the higher level vulnerability
analysis taken from the EAL5 level certification. The BorderWare
Firewall Server is the only Firewall to have passed this higher
level of vulnerability analysis.
The award of a second Common Criteria EAL4 certification to the
BorderWare Firewall Server underlines BTI's commitment to producing
high
quality security products and gives the Firewall Server a significant
market lead. When some manufacturers are still struggling to gain
their first EAL4, BTI is the proud owner of two!
More details of the scope of the new certification and a comparison
with other certified Firewalls can be found in V2.0 of BTI's white
paper Common Criteria Certified Firewalls and in an updated EAL4
FAQ.
