The Lothian and Borders Police have suffered an embarrassing loss of a laptop which according to some reports contained a variety of sensitive and confidential data. The laptop having obviously come to the end of its useful life was meant to be disposed of properly. It seems however that the company subcontracted to carry out the disposal failed to do the job properly as the device turned up in a Glasgow Car Boot sale.ecommnet believes that the lack of any laptop or hard disk encryption is unforgivable especially given the recent trends for such targeted thefts.
