EMC gives MD5 vulnerabilities the brush off

emc logoEMC's Centera is at the heart of many email archiving solutions including KVS's Enterprise Vault. Relying on the underlying data store for the protection of the data is the only way they can attempt to achieve any kind of tamper proof quality to their archive. Recently the security of Centera's MD5 Hashing algorithm has been questioned, throwing into doubt the real value of using this approach to achieve compliance. While EMC brushes off Centera compliance question there are still some doubts within the industry.

Who's looking at you? RBOT Trojan captures webcam video

web camecommnet do not normally write news stories about virus outbreaks or specific virus threats. We believe that all our readers will be vigilant and have already signed up to one or other of the manufacturer's news feeds. However there is a new threat which if it was not so serious would be amusing. The RBOT virus is so multi faceted that it includes the ability to capture images and sound from an installed web cam on the target PC.
The Trojan is very serious and users should ensure that AV systems are up to date as well as operating systems are fully patched.
The vulnerabilities exploited by the Trojan are the following
