The DRC and the Disability Rights Act are in the news again. After conducting a 'Formal Investigation' the DRC headed by Bert Massie, Chairman of the Commission, launched the resulting report today with a scathing condemnation of the majority of the web sites they surveyed. The Survey carried out in conjunction with the Centre for Human Computer Interaction Design at London's City University looked at over 1,000 public web sites and subjected 100 of these for a detailed analysis by a team of disabled users. 'Eight in 10 sites are next to impossible for some disabled people to use' said Massie. Problems commonly cited by the disabled are cluttered and complex page structures, confusing and difficult navigation and simple failure to describe images, bad colour schemes and poor contrast between content and background. ecommnet is committeded to providing accessible designed web sites and wherever possible encourages our customers to adopt the same standards as we expect of ourselves, and we believe our own site is an example of what can be achieved.
