softbank In a graphic example of how losing data can mean losing real money Softbank's chief exec is to have his salary cut by 50% for a period of six months. Several other senior officials are also to have their pay docked as a result of a major security leak which lead to billions of customer details being stolen.
Softbank Corp. is Japan's largest provider of broadband services and the exposure involved over half of YahooBB's subscriber database, which included all 2.4M current customers as well as prospective and recently lapsed subscribers.
Yahoo BB is Softbank's high speed aDSL ISP joint venture with Yahoo Japan Corp. with some 3.8M customers.
Softbank Chief Executive Masayoshi Son apologised publically at the news conference announcing the leak saying, "We will take the utmost care to make sure this never happens again." The company has also issued a 500Yen cash certificate to all Yahoo BB users by way of a real apology
It is believed that the security breach was an inside job but it does not know, or won't tell, exactly how it was achieved.
