 The recent spate of Win32 viruses based on the mymail variant has developed into one of the most significant in the last 12 months.Polling our own and our top 5 customers' mailservers we have seen in excess of 20,000 viruses trapped in the last 7 days. Top score was at a London based outfit 'XXXXXXXX' who have stopped 14,000 and are still seeing more than 2 per minute. All the customers surveyed have been using the BorderWare MXtreme email firewall together with the AV option from Kaspersky Labs or Trend and no one has suffered any real infection because of it. Advice from the SANS-ISC is to turn off any 'virus found' notices that your AV system generates as this is contributing to the email overload the Internet is experiencing.
