From December, UK companies face fines for sending unsolicited email to the public unless they have agreed to recieve it, so called Opt-In. The trouble is that the 'SPAM' from the UK and other EU sources is negligble, indeed I suspect that most of it is 'wanted'. It that other 99%, the P***is enlargement offers etc., most of which come from Florida. With the Data Protection Act as its main role it's not as if the IC has too little to do either, after the new Comissioner stated at the begining of this year that he and his department expected to move into an 'enforcement phase' [following drafting the legislation] and this year would likely see several test cases of firms not complying with the act.
