Friday, May 14, 2004CASPIAN don't see the linkOpinion: Consumers Against Supermarket Privacy Invasion and Numbering (CASPIAN), in their current rant regarding the introduction of RFID tags. Articles and commentary on the CASPIAN web site clearly puts their case that RFID are the insidious spawn of the devil, that the devil, in this case Wal-Mart will be able to steal our souls with a chip the size of a grain of sand sewn into every product we buy. Like any pressure group founded in ideology CASPIAN's view is wholly one sided an does not present another point of view. The fact that retail fraud represents over £1b in the UK alone and that everyone, you and I included; ends up paying for it and that RFID may play a role in reducing that figure never appears in their arguments.
