Yet another data theft hits the news. This one is a little more impressive than the others we have commented on. The loss of two CD-ROMs from the HMRC premises in Washington, Tyne and Wear which contain the details of 25 million people, aproximately 7 million families, is beyond belief. At the time I write this the police still haven't found the disks dispite deploying over 50 officers from the Northumbria force alone. According to sources close to the search team, "they could be anywhere, Washington, Longbenton, the NAO or somwhere within TNT's network..". Their task is being made more difficult due to the fact that the disk's apparently haven't been labelled either!
