Supporting the Agenda for Change team at Northumbria Healthcare NHS Trust

The Challenge

Northumbria Healthcare NHS Trust is, geographically speaking the Largest Trust in the UK, with 6500 staff dispersed over 9 locations.

NHS Agenda for change affects all staff ask an expert a question

In the A4C program they are facing some daunting challenges: Thousands of documents have to be collated relating to 6,500 staff at nine sites in Northumbria where there are employees with similar jobs but different titles, job descriptions and packages – which all have to be matched to a series of agreed nationally defined roles and pay packages and conditions adjusted accordingly.

Traditional approaches using MS Office documents and email communication would fail to address many of the difficulties:

In conjunction with Northumbria IT and Trust management ecommnet have developed a solution to the above problems based upon a document collaboration platform. This customised solution addresses many of the issues by offering:

Maureen Harwood - Associate Director Northumbria Healthcare NHS Trust

“We estimate we will have approximately 1,800 “cluster” jobs to be matched or evaluated– that is people who are in similarly defined roles – and each cluster will generate six documents. With the document management system this whole process offers the potential to become much more manageable, we are able to track the changes made to different versions of documents and as a bonus we get control of our own web site.”

NHS Agenda For Change will gerneate a huge workload for all directorates

A web seminar and demonstration is planned to be held regularly througout 2005. At this event Northumbria Healthcare NHS IT Manager Kevin Dickinson will be available to explain how this solution is being implemented within the Trust and answer any questions from participants.
